Are you battling to get those Munchkins dressed in time for school in the morning? Try incentivising by explaining that as soon as they are dressed, they can have their breakfast and brush their teeth – in that order. If they manage to do this quick enough and there is still 15 minutes left before it is time to leave, they can have BONUS TV time. If however, they choose to take their time, they will have to get in the car in whatever state they are in, without breakfast. Now mommy, don’t panic, they will have snack time at school so they won’t starve! They will however, remember tomorrow morning that it was not very pleasant to go to school on an empty stomach and will be motivated to be ready on time. And maybe even enjoy some cartoons!?

My children don’t listen to me, even when I shout! When somebody shouts at you for something, besides it being emotional abuse, it is hard to focus on what you actually did wrong. All you want to do is focus on the person shouting, thinking, “He is just taking out his bad day on me” or “She’s just in a bad mood”. However, when you calmly and firmly address the situation, your child has to face their contribution to the situation. But usually the reason why you end up shouting is because there has been a build up of undealt with issues. Try to resolve each issue as it arises instead of waiting for a number of small things to accumulate and cause you to explode.
