  • Silver Spoon Recipe : Caramalised Pecan Nuts

I made the nicest caramalised pecan nuts today to use in a roasted pear and blue cheese salad that I am serving with a roasted butternut quiche Lorraine. The pecan nuts just add that little crunchy texture to the dish.

    Here's how:

    INGREDIENTS
    - Butter 1/2 T
    - Brown Sugar 2 T
    - Glucose 1/2 T (Can leave out)
    - Pecan Nuts 1/2 Cup

Do you know what brioche is? Well it is a French bread (made with yeast) that is enriched with butter and eggs. There’s your plain and simple explanation. But let me tell you what it really is…

  • Silver Spoon Recipe : Chocolat Chaud (French Hot Chocolate)

When the winter chill comes, one of the great pleasures is sipping a cup of rich hot chocolate in a cozy coffee house. What’s even better is making your own… I love making this awesome hot chocolate which is quite rich, but as there is no sugar added and it is not terribly sweet, its easy to indulge and even have a second cup!

  • Silver Spoon Tidbits : Madeleines

Perhaps you've heard of France's incredibly popular scallop-shaped tea cake known as a madeleine. This buttery, yellow cake and its uniqueness are mostly in its shape. But, as with a lot of foods in France, there is a charming history to go along with the eating, adding a level of delight and interest to each sweet bite.

Silver Spoon Market Table

Silver Spoon Market Table
by William Baldie on 29 July, 2010 - 09:16

Just outside the doors of Silver Spoon, you'll find a table dressed up in the most delicious treats... Cinnamon buns with a cream cheese topping, apple crumbles, brioche à tête, madeleines and chocolate and cherry filled croissants are only some of the mouth watering delights available.

A Lifestyle Market is held at Cobble Walk Centre in Sonstraal Heights, Durbanville, every first and last Saturday of the month. It starts at 9am and finishes at 3pm. But come early so you don't miss out!

We will also have pecan nut tarts, bread and butter puddings (made with croissants), and two varieties of quiches : Lorraine and Leek with Gruyère. There will also be a whole basket full of bostock, which is a new pastry item that we are making.

Bostock is a slice of brioche, dipped in a Cointreau and almond syrup, topped with frangipane and baked until golden and sticky...need I even invite you to come and try these!

You can also get our very popular Lavazza coffee, take away, inside the restaurant to enjoy with these scrumptious treats.

So instead of sleeping in, come and spoil yourself with some freshly baked indulgence!

See on the edge of the spoon!

My husband and I used to be regular customers at the Silver Spoon. We visited almost daily, enjoying your delicious coffee and cakes. We moved to Texas almost a year ago now and have still NOT been able to find a place as great as yours! I so miss those amazing cakes, so beautifully decorated...
We will be visiting Cape Town again in June and will most definitely be dropping by!
